Canzonetta News...

Our next concert is ‘Canzonetta at Christmas’ when we celebrate in the language of music - some old favourites, some new pieces, a tricky trio by Andrew Carter and some festive readings.  The afternoon will end with mulled wine amd mince pies.  Admission is free with the retiring collection for St. Martin's. Come and join us in this tiny Saxon Church. Did you know it was once derelict, boarded up and covered in ivy, which saved it from Victorian zeal?!

Previous concerts...

A lovely sunny day welcomed us to St. Andrew's Church in the Dorset village of Milborne St. Andrew on Sunday 10th June 2018. It was a lovely programme of songs and readings for a summer afternoon and included the first performance of 'Bushes and Briars' arranged in a cappella four-part harmony for us by John Watkins. A lovely afternoon rounded off by tea and cake raised nearly £300 for St. Andrew's.

We enjoyed our visit to the Parish Church of St. Edward, King and Martyr in Corfe Castle on Sunday 28 October 2018.  Miro Vosper (soprano) was our delightful soloist, singing 'Weep you no more, sad fountains by Roger Quilter and Linden Lea by R. Vaughan Williams. Miro joined us at the end of the programme for a lovely arrangement of 'The Last Rose of Summer'.  Everyone has their own personal highlights at any concert, and this one was no exception; an afternoon of song reflecting the importance of music in our lives. £230 was raised for St. Edward's.

We've recently recorded some songs for Dorchester Radio KeeP106 so listen out for Canzonetta on the airwaves!  Our huge thanks to Andy Worth.

Formed in 2004, this East-Dorset-based singing ensemble enjoys nothing more than travelling around the beautiful Dorset countryside, singing in the delightful churches of Dorset and enjoying tea and cake afterwards!  We cover a varied range of singing styles from baroque and sacred pieces to complex folk arrangements, spirituals to fabulous arrangements of twentieth century songs; close harmony, a cappella or with piano accompaniment.

Canzonetta presents four concerts each year and our adventures thus far have taken us through East Dorset, the Isle  of Purbeck and even as far as Jersey. En route this not-for-profit organisation raises funds to support the local community. If you would like to learn more or you would like to join our e-mailing list, please get in touch using the Contact Us page. We  would love to hear from you.  You can also follow us on Facebook.
