Our concert at St. Edward's in October marks a return after an absence of eleven years! Our last visit there was in 2007 with founder-member Sarah Inglis also singing the soprano solo pieces in the Pergolesi 'Stabat Mater'. You may like to know that Sarah left us for an important post with the Music Service in and around Worcester, and she now runs several very successful sing-for-pleasure groups in the area. They are called 'Sing and Tonic'!
Next year we are making a return visit to Studland and our popular concerts in the lovely church of St. Nicholas. As always we hope for our usual good weather for the scrummy cream teas outside in the Purbeck sunshine! A new and exciting venue for us in July: we have been invited to present a concert in Salisbury Cathedral, in aid of Salisbury Hospice. This will be a ticketed event.

A lovely sunny day welcomed us to St. Andrew's Church in the Dorset village of Milborne St. Andrew on Sunday 10th June 2018. It was a lovely programme of songs and readings for a summer afternoon, with solos from Hilary - 'I know where I'm going', the Kathleen Ferrier favourite!, and Mary - 'June' by Roger Quilter. We introduced a largely new audience to the musical perils of 'Peter Piper' by Frank Bridge and sang the first performance of 'Bushes and Briars' arranged in a cappella four-part harmony for Canzonetta by John Watkins. A lovely afternoon rounded off by tea and cake and we raised nearly £300 for St. Andrew's.
Bere Regis Parish Church was closed for roof repairs for six months and after a monumental cleaning effort by the excellent church team just the day before, our annual Palm Sunday concert could go ahead on 25th March 2018. It was great to see a full church once again! Our programme of Sacred Music for Holy Week included pieces from Vivaldi's 'Gloria', 'Ave Maria' by both Monteverdi and Faure and 'My song is love unknown' written for us by Dr. Richard Hall. Accompanied by Richard and Isabelle Butler on the piano and with a solo from Richard, it was a magical afternoon of music making. Tea and cake too! The retiring collection raised £348 for St. John's.
Formed in 2004, this East-Dorset-based singing ensemble enjoys nothing more than travelling around the beautiful Dorset countryside, singing in the delightful churches of Dorset and enjoying tea and cake afterwards! We cover a varied range of singing styles from baroque and sacred pieces to complex folk arrangements, spirituals to fabulous arrangements of twentieth century songs; close harmony, a cappella or with piano accompaniment.
Canzonetta presents four concerts each year and our adventures thus far have taken us through East Dorset, the Isle of Purbeck and even as far as Jersey. En route this not-for-profit organisation raises funds to support the local community.
