dorset-based vocal ensemble

Formed in 2004, this East-Dorset-based singing ensemble enjoys nothing more than travelling around the beautiful Dorset countryside, singing in the delightful churches of Dorset and enjoying tea and cake afterwards!  We cover a varied range of singing styles from baroque and sacred pieces to complex folk arrangements, spirituals to fabulous arrangements of twentieth century songs; close harmony, a cappella or with piano accompaniment.

Canzonetta presents four concerts each year and our adventures thus far have taken us through East Dorset, the Isle  of Purbeck and even as far as Jersey. En route this not-for-profit organisation raises funds to support the local community. If you would like to learn more or you would like to join our e-mailing list, please get in touch using the Contact Us page. We  would love to hear from you.  You can also follow us on Facebook.

We are preparing for our annual Palm Sunday Concert at Bere Regis on Sunday 25th March 2018. Richard Hall will be returning and this year he has written a beautiful piece for Canzonetta,  'My song is love unknown'. Repairs to the roof of St. John's are completed but this year we won't be using the organ, as it's still underwraps from all the dust!

Palm Sunday

Parish Church of St. John the Baptist

Bere Regis  BH20 7HQ

Sunday 10 June 2018   3pm

Next year, 2019, we will be presenting a concert in Salisbury Cathedral for Salisbury Hospice on a Saturday evening in July  and we are discussing a return to St. Nicholas, Studland for the spring.

We have commissioned John Watkins to arrange a folk song for us, 'Bushes and Briars', to be performed on June 10th 2018 at Milborne St. Andrew. John is Director of Dorset Chamber Choir.

Previous concerts...

We had a lovely time at St Nicholas Church, Studland on Sunday 7 May 2017 and we had a full house too!  The weather was kind to us and we had cream teas afterwards in the hall and outside in the glorious Purbeck sunshine. In fact there was a bit of a scramble to find extra seating and scones!  The afternoon made £1076 for Lewis-Manning Hospice.  Well done Studland Team!

Our Christmas Concert on Sunday 17th December in the Church of St John the Evangelist, Tolpuddle was a huge success. Thank you to all the team for making us so welcome.  The church looked fabulous, with a large Christmas tree and candles all around.  The church was full and we had a lovely afternoon of ensemble singing, solos, duets and readings, culminating in mulled wine and mince pies. William Bishop (treble) was our guest soloist and he also played a selection of carols on the church organ as people arrived. Proceeds from the retiring collection for St. John's.

Wimborne Voices is presenting a concert at St. Michael's, Colehill (Wimborne) on Sunday 15th April 3-4pm.  Free admission. Retiring collection for St. Michael's and Dorset Rural Music School.  Join us for Tea and cake!
